Welcome to The Curious Owl — a bright, colourful creative studio in Hull, designed for adults who want to do something fun, different and hands-on.
This is a place to switch off, enjoy some great music, get stuck into paint and colour, and leave with something you’ve made yourself. No experience needed. No pressure to be “good at art”. Just time, space and creativity.

We offer creative experiences that are relaxed, welcoming and easy to enjoy, whether you’re popping in for a couple of hours or planning something special.
🎨 Pick n Paint
Our core offering and the perfect place to start.
Pick n Paint is a self-led creative session where you choose an item, paint and personalise it your way, and enjoy the process with feel-good music playing in the background. Think pottery painting, without the pottery! Instead, choose from fabric or wooden items to paint and decorate. Go freehand, or use a stencil or tracer to bring your item to life.

Tables are booked in 2-hour slots and items are priced from £20 to £30 each.
🎨 Workshops
Try something new, with guidance and support.
Our workshops are stand-alone creative and reflective sessions for adults aged 16+, designed to help you slow down, focus and explore something a little different. From beginner-friendly craft workshops to intention, clarity and reflection sessions, each workshop offers a guided experience in a small, supportive group.
Workshops run at different times throughout the week and are always booked in advance.
🎉 Themed Paint Sessions
Our lively, music-led sessions with a fun twist.
Themed Paint Sessions take everything you love about Pick n Paint and turn the energy up a notch.
Each session has its own theme, reflected in the music, creative materials, embellishments and tracers available on the night.
Expect optional dressing up, toe-tapping tunes, spontaneous sing-alongs and plenty of colour, all while you paint and personalise your chosen item.
These sessions run on selected Saturdays and must be booked in advance.

Celebrate, socialise or get creative together.
Looking to book the studio for a group? We offer private Pick n Paint bookings for adults aged 16+, perfect for birthdays, celebrations, team socials or just getting a group together to do something different.

Coming on your own?
At our 11am Pick n Paint sessions on Friday and Saturday, we offer a community table for anyone booking solo who’d prefer not to sit alone.
You can paint, chat and enjoy the session alongside others, or simply focus on your own piece.
No pressure either way.

We’re based right in the heart of Hull. Warm, welcoming, easy to find, and surprisingly simple to park near.
♿ Accessibility:
We have one step to get into the studio, then everything is on one level. The street and path around the studio are cobbled, so unfortunately, we are unable to provide stable ramp access.
