at The Curious Owl
Pick n Paint is our bright, colourful, self-led creative experience for adults (ages 16 and over), where you choose an item, paint and personalise it your way, and enjoy a couple of hours of creative fun.
It’s relaxed but lively, welcoming but grown-up, with feel-good background music playing, tables full of colour, and plenty of space to get stuck in.
No experience needed.
No pressure to be “arty”.
Just pick something you like and make it yours.
What is Pick n Paint?
Pick n Paint is a drop-in style creative experience inside The Curious Owl Studio.
Unlike a traditional workshop, there’s no step-by-step teaching and no set design to follow. You’re free to create at your own pace, with guidance available if you’d like it, but the focus is on choice, enjoyment and creative freedom, not perfection.
Come with friends, as a couple, or on your own. Pick n Paint is about switching off, having a laugh, and leaving with something you’ve made yourself.
The Vibe

It’s not:
🎨 A formal art class
🎨 Quiet or serious
🎨 A pub or bar
Most sessions are alcohol-free, with bottomless hot drinks (or a bottle of water / can of drink) included in your studio booking fee.
At our monthly themed sessions and late evening sessions (7pm onwards), BYOB is welcome if you’d like to bring a drink along while you paint.
What can you make?
Pick n Paint focuses on painting, decorating and embellishing.
Items change regularly and may include:
🎨 Canvases (with optional 3D add-ons)
🎨 Wooden signs and decorative pieces
🎨 Home décor items
🎨 Fabric items such as bags or accessories
🎨 Seasonal and limited-edition pieces
You’ll have access to:
🎨 Acrylic paints
🎨 Paint pens
🎨 Embellishments to stick or layer
🎨 Fabric paints and sprays
All items are priced individually and chosen on the day.
How Pick n Paint Works
1. Book a table or drop in (subject to availability)
2. Pick your item from the Pick n Paint menu
3. Paint, decorate and personalise it your way
4. Enjoy the process — music on, creativity flowing
5. Take your finished piece home
Tables are booked in 2-hour time slots, which gives plenty of time to complete your project.
During busy periods, we do ask everyone to finish within their booked time so we can welcome the next group.
It's £5 per person to book your place at the studio - this covers your studio fee plus bottomless hot drinks (or a bottle of water / can of drink).
Who is Pick n Paint for?
Pick n Paint is designed for adults who want something creative, fun and different to do, whether that’s a catch-up with friends, a relaxed date, or time doing something just for you.
Age information;
Pick n Paint is strictly for ages 16 and over
Anyone under 16 is not permitted in Pick n Paint sessions
Community Table – 11am sessions
At our 11am Pick n Paint sessions on Thursdays and Fridays, we also offer a community table. This is a shared table for anyone who’d like to come along but doesn’t want to paint alone.
If you’re booking for one person, you’ll be given the option to sit at the community table, where you can paint, chat and enjoy the session alongside other people doing the same.
It’s a relaxed, friendly way to meet others, with no pressure to socialise if you’d rather just focus on your painting.
Group Size and Private Bookings
Tables available to book online seat up to 8 people
If you’re looking to book for a larger group, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to help
Private bookings are available and have their own dedicated page with full details.
Themed and Late Sessions
Alongside regular Pick n Paint sessions, we also run themed evenings and late sessions, which are bookable separately.
These sessions may include:
A themed creative focus
Extended evening opening
BYOB welcome

We want everyone to feel informed and comfortable before visiting us.
🎨 There is one step up into the studio entrance
🎨 Unfortunately, we’re unable to safely install a ramp due to limited space between the doorway and the lane outside
🎨 The approach to the studio includes cobbled ground, which isn’t level
🎨 Once inside, the studio itself is on one level
If you have specific access needs or would like to talk through whether a visit would work for you, please get in touch before booking. We’re always happy to have an honest conversation and help where we can.
We believe in openness and clarity, and we’d much rather chat things through in advance than have anyone feel unsure on the day.
Booking & Visiting
Pick n Paint runs during our studio opening hours at The Curious Owl.
You can:

🎨Drop in if availability allows
Tables are limited, so booking ahead is recommended — especially at weekends and during themed or late sessions.
Items are chosen and paid for on the day.
